This morning, ZTE Corporation held its 2019 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders at its headquarters in Nanshan District, Shenzhen.
Xu Ziyang, president of ZTE, responded to the external concerns about the 5nm chip process, “At present, the company’s 7nm chip has achieved mass production, and the 5nm chip will be launched in 2021.”
We have designed the front-end and back-end, but in terms of production and manufacturing, we rely on the division of labor of global partners. In terms of the core competitiveness of key chips, we invest a lot of research and development resources. In the field of algorithms, we have accumulated for 30 years, which can ensure the best effect of bandwidth.
Yesterday, ZTE said on the interactive platform that the company has chip design and development capabilities. The 7nm chip is in mass production and has been commercialized in the global 5G deployment.
Xie Junshi, executive vice president and chief operating officer of ZTE, said that in the past three years, ZTE has spent 12.1 billion yuan on R & D every year, but it has not been transformed into profit quickly. ZTE needs to transform its technology leadership into market leadership more quickly, so as to improve its profit level. The company has been adjusting accordingly.
ZTE said that the entire process covers the chip R & D and design capabilities. Regardless of the earliest architectural design, simulation, front-end design, back-end physical implementation, packaging, and testing design, packaging testing, and corresponding chip future failure analysis, etc., R&D design can be implemented throughout the life cycle. This is the absolute leading position in the industry.
