Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Tianfeng International, released the latest Apple research report today, predicting that South Korean lens supplier Semco and Chinese lens supplier Sunny Optical will enter Apple’s lens supply chain in the second half of 2020 and in 2021, respectively.

The report pointed out that Semco will become Apple’s strategic lens supplier. It is expected to start supplying 6P lenses for the iPhone 12 in the second half of 2020, accounting for about 10% of shipments, and will start supplying 5P/6P/7P lenses for the iPhone in 2021.
The report also stated that due to Semco’s technical advantages, the periscope voice coil motor in the 2020 iPhone may replace the current spring design with Senko’s spherical design.
The report predicts that Sunny Optical will begin shipping a large number of iPad lenses and a small number of Mac lenses starting in the first half of 2021. If shipments go smoothly, Sunny Optical is expected to start shipping iPhone lenses in the second half of 2021.
