Yesterday, Xiaomi made it official that the all-new Mix Fold 3 (the next-generation foldable flagship) will be launched on August 14 (the coming Monday). In addition, the official renders were also revealed by the company. Recently, Xiaomi has revealed a significant highlight regarding the folding technology of Mix Fold 3.
This morning, Xiaomi (on Weibo) officially announced that the all-new Mix Fold 3 will feature the Keel Hinge, which enables a folding design that is both slim and lightweight, making it a true flagship. This innovation includes a 3-stage connecting rod shaft, 14 movable joints, 198 distinct shaft components, and a non-porous design floating plate for the shaft. These elements collectively deliver a folding mechanism that stands out.
It is also reported that the screen’s flatness is significantly enhanced. It has an impressive 8.6% reduction in thickness, while the folded form achieves a 12.5% reduction. Furthermore, the hinge width is reduced by 8%, and the overall hinge area is minimized by 17%, all contributing to a more compact and streamlined device.
As per previous news, the Mix Fold 3 will feature an 8.02 inches inner display while the outer display is a 6.5 inches display that would support 1080p+ resolution. It is worth mentioning that both displays will support a 120Hz refresh rate.
On the backside, the device features a quad camera setup in a rectangle-shaped camera module covered by glass. The lenses are arranged into a square shape. The camera is developed in collaboration with Leica and is rumored to include a 3.2x portrait center focus and a 5x periscopic telephoto lens.
The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset that is based on TSMC’s second-generation 4nm manufacturing process. The chipset consists of Cortex-X3 Super Core (@3.2GHz), Adreno 740 GPU, and Snapdragon X70 5G modem.
The device would be available in two colors: Gold and Black. It would support 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. However, the battery capacity is unknown.
At the moment, the pricing of the device is unknown. In the coming days, Xiaomi is expected to reveal more highlights of its Mix Fold 3.
