At the 2020 China Informatization Summit, Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu stated that the Mate 40 series will be released in September this year and will feature Huawei’s new Kirin chip.
This Kirin chip should refer to the Kirin 9000 series, which is manufactured using TSMC’s 5nm process and codenamed Baltimore. Its CPU will be upgraded to the Cortex-A78 architecture, reportedly offering a 50% performance improvement over the Kirin 990.
Although facing many uncertainties earlier, industry sources say that the Kirin 9000 series chips will be delivered before September, and Huawei’s product shipments in the second half of the year will not encounter major problems.
As for the Mate 40 series, it will launch four models this year: the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+, and the Mate 40 Porsche Design. All models feature curved screens, but the curvature varies between different versions, resulting in different visual effects.
This time, the Mate 40 series will be upgraded in appearance, 5G support, performance, battery life, and fast charging. The biggest highlight is the new generation camera system, which is reported to feature a 9P freeform lens.
In his speech, Richard Yu revealed that Huawei’s consumer business achieved sales revenue of 255.8 billion yuan in the first half of the year, with global smartphone shipments reaching 105 million units.
Richard Yu stated that in the second quarter of this year, Huawei’s global smartphone shipments surpassed Samsung, becoming the world’s number one. He said that even under the unfair competition of sanctions, we still ranked first in the world.
