This morning, ZTE Corporation held its 2019 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders at its headquarters in Nanshan District, Shenzhen.
Xu Ziyang, President of ZTE, responded to the external concerns about the 5nm chip process, “At present, the company’s 7nm chip has achieved mass production, and the 5nm chip will be launched in 2021.”
We designed the front end and back end, but for manufacturing, we rely on the division of labor and collaboration with global partners. For the core competitiveness of key chips, we have invested a large amount of R&D resources. In the field of algorithms, we have accumulated thirty years of experience, which allows us to ensure optimal bandwidth performance.

Yesterday, ZTE stated on its interactive platform that it can design and develop chips. Its 7nm chips have already reached mass production and are being used commercially in global 5G deployments.
Xie Junshi, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ZTE, stated that over the past three years, ZTE has invested 12.1 billion yuan annually in research and development, but has not been able to quickly translate this into profits. ZTE needs to convert its technological leadership more quickly into market leadership to improve profitability. The company is making corresponding adjustments accordingly.
ZTE Corporation stated that the entire process covers chip research and development as well as design capabilities. Whether it is the earliest stages of architecture design, simulation, front-end design, back-end physical implementation, packaging, test design, packaging and testing, or subsequent failure analysis of the chip, R&D and design can run through the entire lifecycle. This is an absolute leading position in the industry.
